WEGEMT is proud to announce the launch of the VISIONS Best PhD Thesis Award, an exciting new initiative recognising outstanding doctoral research in marine technology and related sciences. This competition is a continuation of WEGEMT’s long-standing commitment to innovation and excellence in the WATERBORNE sector, building on the legacy of the original VISIONS competitions and the renowned TRA VISIONS awards.
The new award will highlight the most innovative and impactful PhD dissertations defended within WEGEMT member universities. It aims to spotlight young researchers whose work addresses key challenges in the
maritime domain, including zero-emission shipping, blue growth, smart port operations, and marine safety.
Key Information:
- Eligibility: Open to candidates who defended their PhD between 2020 and 2024 at WEGEMT member universities.
- Themes: Topics must relate to maritime technology, covering ships and shipping, blue growth, ports and logistics, or traditional marine engineering disciplines.
- Prize: A top award of up to €5,000 (depending on industry support), a certificate of excellence, and an invitation to a prestigious ceremony at a WATERBORNE-related event.
- Submission Deadline: 30 September 2025
- Evaluation: A rigorous two-stage review by a panel of leading academics and industry experts.
